Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student and I covered most material about understanding the derivative. We focused on local extrema and finding critical points. He is going to complete his assignments over these topics by the next time we meet on Monday."
"During this session, we conducted a general overview of the topics that will be covered on the test on Friday. Specifically, we discussed logarithmic differentiation, domain, asymptotes and graph sketches. The student was not very familiar with logarithmic differentiation, but it's somewhat of a niche topic and it's fairly easy to learn, so I would not worry too much about it. For the most part though, he seemed confident of his ability to tackle to topics that we covered. As I reiterated before, mastery of calculus is all about building technique through repetition and as long as he does so, he will have no problem with future assessments. All in all, I think this session was a good refresher for some topics and it also allowed him to ask me any last minute questions before his test."
"He had several assignments he'd been working on that he had some issues with. We completed them and talked about the details of taking limits. We took limits of all kinds of functions with a variety of techniques."
"His work is becoming more organized and methodical. That is excellent. Problem-solving is getting better, too. I would still like to see more improvement. Sometimes, after one method of solving a problem fails, he just gives up. He needs to keep trying different things until it works. We will continue to work on this next session. Content-wise, we covered u-substitution and parametric equations today. We focused on some difficult problems. We have now covered everything he got wrong on those diagnostic tests. He did well on the homework. Excellent attitude from the student, as always. Motivation and drive comes from him, as he's sort of the one steering the lesson forward, directing what to cover next, as usual."
"I covered optimization with the student today. He seemed a bit more interested in the whole thing this time, much more communicative, which made the session much better overall. I saw no scores, but he thinks he did fine on the last test. He learned a good bit of optimization, which was the goal. Good stuff overall!"
"I covered the problem set on limits. The student wanted to make sure what he was doing was correct. He seemed to have understood the problem set we went through. I did give him new problem for practice. He got them all correct."
