Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we searched for data for a correlation/regression project. After multiple attempts, I suggested that we enter fictitious data into JMP and compute the regression using the fake data. The idea would be the same. However, the student would eventually have her two columns of data. We also looked over a few homework problems. However, because many of the problems required that she enter the data in JMP, we had very little time to review the problems (less than 30 minutes). Thus, we focused on a handful of problems that did not require data entry and analysis in JMP."
"This session we discussed hypothesis testing, type I and type II errors, and using the graphing calculator's T-test function. The student struggled with knowing what function to use but seemed to get it towards the end of our session. I showed the student how to use Excel to check work and calculate basic statistics. The student did well with this week's homework and seems to have a solid B in the class. The student really got the concept behind using t-tests and seems confident with using them."
"This week's session was all about probability. The student had a fairly lengthy homework assignment that we reviewed together. This homework was asking the students to combine all of the rules of probability that they had learned and apply them to complex problems. She was struggling with this quite a bit, so I am glad that we are having another session before her test where we can go over the review sheet together. I am encouraging her to read the problems carefully and think out what the problem is asking so they do not seem as difficult. I am going to try to stress this with her during our next session as well."
"Today I worked with the student on binomial distributions. We worked on establishing the null hypothesis and critical regions of Z for each test. We worked on finding the Z score, standard deviation, and standard error based on the given values of X and n, and the expected proportion p."
"Today the student and I started covering concepts in probability. We went over the law of large numbers and the central limit theorem. She was able to pick up on the concepts quickly and finish all but one assignment. I do believe that she should work on the material more often throughout the week."
"Today the student and I worked on a review of her anatomy homework. She had to remember 15 words from her given word bank; she did really well with this assignment."
