After reviewing their work on the previous chapters, I taught them several concepts from each textbook they seemed to have trouble with (mostly the nature of bonding). I instructed them to read the next two-three chapters and answer the questions listed at the end so that in the following session we would be able to start by reviewing these questions.

We discussed the proper method for naming compounds from chemical formulas, and deriving the chemical formula from the name of a compound. The student has good understanding of the material. We agreed that he would finish the worksheet that outlines the information on the exam and that he would memorize the table of polyatomic anions that will ensure he does well on his exam.
