Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Concepts covered today included cause and effect and inference in a reading selection. I introduced the concept of median, given a set of numbers. We also practiced 9x facts and the student did an excellent job with his facts."
"During the first part of the lesson, I reviewed dividing decimals with my student. I demonstrated a problem and then had my student solve a few problems from a worksheet. She was able to solve the problems on her own. Next, I reviewed adding and subtracting mixed numbers. I had her solve some problems from a workbook. She was able to solve the addition problems independently, but needed a little assistance with one of the subtraction problems. I also reviewed finding an equivalent fractions with my student. Finally, I reviewed a few multiplication facts using flashcards with my student."
"During this session I introduced the student to symmetry and and measurement. She excelled at learning about lines of symmetry and especially enjoyed cutting out symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes. I then gave her a ruler and asked her to measure the length of several different objects. Although she knew how to measure objects to the nearest inch, she struggled with understanding how to measure to parts of an inch, such 1/2, 1/4, or 3/4, but we'll keep working on it. I also gave her some practice with reading temperature. Throughout the lesson, I used online games in order to engage her with the lesson and keep her interest."
"During this session we worked on understanding supporting details, as it relates to the main idea. The student has a good grasp on the concept and was able to answer questions with 75% accuracy. In an effort to improve her learning habits, we discussed strategies for remembering. I encourage her to think about the question in relation to all available information, then attempt to answer the question. We reviewed the four methods for multiplying and applied them to two-digit by two-digit problems. We will continue with the remaining methods (modeled and guided practice) during the next session."
"During this session, Student 1 focused on multiplication and fractions. This was his first introduction to fractions, but he picked it up very quickly! He is also learning how to solve single digit multiplication problems that he has not memorized by using repeated addition and is beginning to use this skill independently. Student 2's session was spent working on place value, adding 100s and 10s, along with some 3 digit subtraction and multiplication practice. She worked very hard throughout the session and picked up on the new concepts easily."
"During this session, student one and I worked on reading and writing. She was a bit difficult, since it was Friday, but she still did work. We used goldfish to do counting exercises. We also did reading exercises. We also did reading races. Student two and I had a bit of trouble concerning looking up answers in the back of his workbooks. But the issue was taken care of. We learned about deducing definitions based on context clues. We also reviewed multiplication."
