Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During our session, the student and I worked on SAT vocabulary and subject-verb agreement. She did not write the narrative essays I assigned to her over the weekend, but she will write those for our upcoming sessions. She is going to write new sentences for the vocab words she is studying. She did ask me for help on the subject-verb agreement assignment. She still has some trouble identifying the exact verb and subject to compare, but she is still doing better than when I started working with her."
"During today's session, I introduced the student to discrete and continuous functions. He showed mastery skills on the previous covered concepts, so we decided to move forward with the curriculum. He fully understood the concept of discrete and continuous functions, and we were able to complete his upcoming assignment. I'm very proud of his progress and the confidence that he shows with new mathematical concepts."
"During today's session, solving expressions with imaginary numbers and the quadratic formula were the concepts which were reviewed. The Math 3 (Unit 1) Study Guide was used to guide the review. She occasionally struggled with having the correct sign when solving equations using the quadratic formula. The student was able to overcome her struggle after a review from the tutor."
"Finished a conics section quiz, and then started on range, domain, functions, and relations. Finished 3-4 more quizzes. The student struggled a little with the conics section, as concepts and forms are difficult and require more time and analysis to be fully comprehended. The range/domain section is very easy for him."
"FIRST SESSION! The student is a super nice girl who is determined and very mature for her age. She missed a lot of math last year, so her parents were worried about holes in her conceptual understanding, and rightfully so--she's definitely missing a few things. Negative numbers, for example, still trouble her--we'll need to review number lines--and what exactly variables represent, but her multiplication skills are good and her ability to learn is wonderful! I was pleased to note that she has excellent spatial reasoning, so that will be a good hook for her brain! Today we covered: the coordinate plane, ordered pairs, axes, functions, graphs, lines, the midpoint formula, and the distance formula. She completed a geometry test on her own first, and got a 70%, and then we did a test together and got a 100%, so yay! Same time next week."
"First tutoring session. Met the student for preparation of his exam. We covered different topics including simple equations with variables, ratios and proportions, and percent error. He seemed comfortable when reviewing and solving different examples. The student was not provided with extra practice due to the proximity of test date. Overall, the student seemed to gain greater grasp of the material by the end of the tutoring session."
