Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was focused towards success as she worked diligently in understanding the basics of subtraction and borrowing. We discussed how addition and subtraction undo each other as well as how multiplication and division undo one another. Algebra was performed in which one part of an equation was missing and she had to discover the missing number. The importance of knowing and memorizing her facts was stressed, as this is a weak point. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her."
"The student was positive, easy to work with, and energized. I used large number cards to assess his number sense. I showed him the card and asked him to identify each number out of sequence. He can orally count accurately from 1 to 10. We used the cards to put the numbers in order on the floor. We used toys to show numbers (to assess number correspondence). We practiced writing his name on an etch a sketch. We ended by reviewing number sequence."
"The student was recalling things and moving at a good pace. She finished the addition portion and half of the subtraction portion of mixed numbers."
"The student was very excited to get started today! She prepared a great mystery story, and we went through the story for editing. We added capitals, periods, commas, etc. We then corrected addresses and wrote her address. We sorted irregular nouns and created prefixes and suffixes. For Math, we reviewed area and perimeter. She mapped out her room over cubic inches and then calculated the area and perimeter. She practiced area and perimeter with a few other practice problems."
"The student was very excited to read today! She was a little less excited to work on math, but she showed tenacity in this work nevertheless. In math, she worked on showing time on an analog clock, subtracting from a value of 100, and illustrating a number sentence as a story. In ELA, she read three stories with grade-level appropriate vocabulary. She did an excellent job sounding out difficult words. I hope that we can push her towards short stories with higher vocabulary levels to push her thinking."
"The student was very focused during this session. We worked on addition and subtraction word problems and rounding. We also worked on reading comprehension and reading for information."
