Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student read two chapters from Public School Superhero. This book has proved to be a great choice. After reading, we worked on an additional reading comprehension exercise that I brought along. He's doing a good job!"
"Today the student completed his math homework, and then he spent most of the time working on his English assignment. He had to choose any product, and create a product page for it, which included a product description, details, target audience, and reviews. He chose a hoverboard as his product, and we created an outline to include all of the necessary information. I was extremely impressed by how focused he stayed, and that he completed the entire project during the session. He needed help with sentence structure and mechanics, which is something we will continue working on."
"The student and I practiced his spelling words by writing them in sentences and by playing a few games I made up. We also worked on identifying the "naming part" and the "action part" of sentences. We finished with a quick review and practice for his assessment exam."
"We are still focusing on conversation. We discussed news stories which they had researched for homework. Both women make small mistakes with pronunciation and grammar, but overall their skills and progress are good. They asked for more practice using question words, so that will be the focus of our next lesson. They have homework for next week to write a story and to solve a crossword puzzle."
"Today the student and I reviewed an essay he wrote for an application to a high school. He brought an impressive rough draft to the table. After reading it aloud, we then moved forward with editing and refining the piece. He was quick to notice mistakes he had made, and there were plenty of learning opportunities there. After making all of the edits, I had him read it aloud once more, this time working on slowing down and making sure he was pronouncing everything more clearly."
"We had a very productive session. The student had made notes about his assignment beforehand which allowed us to jump right in and focus on the actual construction of the writing. We went through his essay line by line and really concentrated on keeping his writing focused. I challenged him to support every sentence with evidence from the text, and as a result the final product was precise and well written. This was one of our most productive sessions to date, and laid the groundwork for great progress in the future."
