Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student read an article about dolphins in the reading program. He also wrote a report about dolphins. We reviewed his math homework. He finished his study of the use of the apostrophe."
"Today was another good session with the student! He seemed a lot more comfortable with surface area, area and volume, and with doing the equations. He seems to understand the equations as well, but does need to pay attention to the details (something I'm sure he'll be able to do at school when he's in school mode)! My hope is that we can move onto proportions with these measurements in our next session. I'd like to leave him with some geometry as well (specifically, regarding quadrilaterals)."
"Today we covered different types of math problems including creating equations. She showed improvement in understanding word problems. We also worked on her reading and being able to identify important quotes."
"Today we covered dividing and multiplying mixed numbers and fractions, word problems, ratios, and solving proportions. Both students were struggling the most with remembering to reduce fractions. Student one and student two were both positive toward the material that was reviewed, and I taught them what ratios are and how to solve proportions. I left them with some word problems, ratios, and proportions to solve. Student one did really well on her work from last week, while student two missed a few questions because of minor mistakes in converting mixed numbers to fractions. Overall, both of them are doing well in math. They both seem to understand ratios and cross multiplying well. They are making less mistakes than before, and they are counting less. They both still need to work on their multiplication facts, especially 6's, 7's, 8's, and 9's."
"Today we covered factoring, FOILing, and systems of equations in algebra. I explained the "factor fish" trick for factoring and left the student with notes on all of these concepts. We also went over finding the orthocenter and circumcenter of a triangle, and need to work through a couple of problems to solidify the information."
"Today we did an overall review of year material: Factoring in tandem with the distributive property, area and perimeter of various polygons, identifying and counting vertices, edges, and faces on polyhedrons, etc. Extra practice with mental quick arithmetic to wane off from having to count by numbers for basic addition and subtraction will be worked on in the next session."
