How can a Science tutor help you?

Science is a diverse subject that focuses on understanding the natural world. Through science, your child could learn about the earth, medicine, cause and effect, and so much more. It is a crucial part of your child's education, but some students have a great deal of difficulty with science. If your child is someone who has trouble understanding the scientific process, or any of the other topics covered in science class, then seeking a tutor is the perfect solution. Private science tutoring in New Haven, CT, will encourage your student to work smarter and achieve their goals in a shorter period of time.

Students can find science difficult because, while much of it explains how the observable parts of our world work, they can't see the theories of science in action. Luckily, a personal tutor will make the learning process easy by teaching your student using the method that works best for them. Our educational directors in New Haven can match your child with a science tutor who might help improve their study skills as well as their science knowledge. Because no two children learn in the same way, your child's tutor will teach them in a manner that is focused on their personal learning style. This may include written exercises or simple discussions that bring the concepts to life, but either way, it will be a manner that attempts to try to help your student learn best.

This was our first meeting. The student wanted to work on combined gas law to prepare for the quiz in the coming week. I explained to her the different gas laws (Boyle's, Charles's, Gay-Lussac's, Combined) and their uses. She seemed to have a solid understanding in the equations. We also reviewed her past quiz on Boyle's Law and solved a problem set that I had prepared before the session. She grasped the concepts very quickly and was able to work on her class assignment with confidence. At the end of the class, she told me that she felt more comfortable with the subject.

We reviewed briefly some of the newer material the student will be learning. We didn't go into to much depth since it has not been covered in class yet. We also began going over the material that may be covered on her final. I hope to find some worksheets and reviewing materials we can work on together next time, as well as going over the new material.

The student and I worked on her latest discussion packet from class which included the topics of work and energy of systems under constant volume and pressure. The student had done most of the work prior to meeting, and I am happy to note that she is improving in her ability to understand the material independently! We reviewed several of these problems and then we went through some problems dealing with enthalpy of reactions and determining the enthalpy through either enthalpy of formation or bond energies. One area that was slightly confusing was that the student seems to treat the sign of work done by a system differently than what I have seen in the traditional texts.

We covered redox reactions (in neutral, acidic, and basic conditions), dilutions, and limiting reagent problems. The student seemed to already have a pretty good handle on the basic concepts needed to solve the problems, he just needed a little clarification and some pointers to get him started. He did particularly well with the redox reactions. I guided him through the first one, but he did the others almost entirely without assistance. He needed more help on the dilution/limiting reagent problem, but he seemed pretty confident about it by the time we were done. He was a little confused on how to find a limiting reagent, but from there he was able to successfully calculate the mass of a product on his own. He had a very positive attitude towards the material we covered, which I think will be very helpful for him going forward in this class.
