Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over u-substitution with definite integrals. She needed help with the computational aspects of the integrals, but understands conceptually what needs to be done. I indicated to her that she should practice u-substitution problems with definite integrals as found in her review materials in order to get the concept down."
"The student and I went over what we will do for each session. We will review math facts and do the "mountain math" math together. She is using Math Investigations. I will use the same materials as what her teacher is using and will have the workbook copies. I plan to contact the student's father to obtain copies of the homework and discuss her progress."
"The student and I went over writing new equations when translating a function. We also started learning how to reflect a function on the x axis. We did all of this to prep for her algebra quiz, and we completed her physics study guide which included the first chapter of her text."
"The student and I went through her math homework. We discussed using mathematical equations to model for real life situations, such as for calculating tax or discounts. We also went through some techniques for solving systems of equations."
"The student and I went through her review questions for her Chapter 2 test on Friday. We talked some about the problems she had with Chapter 1, and she is planning on asking her teacher for the missing review questions and to see her test so she bring those issues to next week's session. She feels confident for her test; I gave her my contact information if something comes up during the week."
"The student and I went through his homework, which consisted of evaluating functions and putting linear equations into standard form. He struggled most with evaluating functions when given a variable or an expression. He was focused throughout the entire session, we did many additional problems in the sections he felt he needed the most help in. The student needs to work on slowing down, writing out all his steps, and performing his calculations correctly. His confidence in his capabilities will allow him to do even better when taking quizzes/tests. I left him to finish a handful of simple problems that he was very comfortable with handling on his own. I would like to see his grades so that I can gauge what his biggest struggles are."
