Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over the process of active reading, a technique designed to improve reading comprehension. He was instructed to read an article on the history of zombies, and we read aloud. He summarized reading during the process, and was taught to read all supplementary materials (i.e. questions, introductions, etc.) before reading, to know what he was looking for while reading. He was highly receptive to the process."
"The student and I went over the quiz she had earlier this week. The main concept was applying the chain, product, and quotient rule to her differentiation. She definitely knew how to do the questions she got wrong, which is great, but she made simplifying errors or sign errors and that lost her points. We also went through and covered some of the topics that will be on her test next week. We did implicit differentiation and differentiating piece-wise functions and absolute value functions. Her attitude was great as always; we always have a good time during our sessions. I'll check in with her next week to see how her test went."
"The student and I went over the results of her test, and she scored the highest in her class! We then reviewed Pythagorean theorem and went over problems that involved Pythagorean triples (3-4-5, 5-12-13, 7-24-25, etc.) and how to identify when triangles are similar based on triple properties. Sometimes she has trouble identifying the best way to attack a problem, so we are working on strategies for her to guide the problem, especially challenging problems, so she can better develop that problem-solving skill for geometry. For homework she is making corrections to her test."
"The student and I went over the Socks-Shoes theorem. We also went over a little bit on inverses. Overall, I feel like he has a great grasp so far. "
"The student and I went over the steps for problem solving and used problems involving systems of equations. We talked about the importance of teaching students explicitly how to interpret word problems and how important it is to write the information from the word problem down on your own paper. In addition to system of equations, we also worked on drawing diagrams to help solve problems. She seemed to really follow along with both. Lastly, we went over her mistakes from her previous test (her score was an 82) which allowed us to see where she was making errors. It seemed as though her mistakes were more a product of rushing and not being careful as opposed to truly not knowing or understanding the material being tested."
"The student and I went over their final test for the class. We will meet back on Thursday to go over final questions."
