Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We started sequences today. We spent the session focusing on how to recognize the patterns in sequences, and how to define the pattern and write it as a function. Then we went over recursive sequences and how to write them."
"We went over a number of subjects involving speed, averages, and graphing. With speed, the student did a good job handling the conversions from hours to minutes, and using them to set up her proportions to solve her questions. Her work with averages needed some practice. We will continue to work on this. Graphing posed no problem for her, as she mastered plotting points and understanding slope. She spent the rest of the session completing homework problems."
"We went over a test that the student took last week, and corrected the problems he had incorrect. He also finished his homework assignment. He is doing very well, and I think that he is just having problems with orders of operations and using the reverse operations. I will prepare a plan for our next session to go over these."
"We went over a worksheet the student sent me that dealt with slope of linear equations, solving equations, evaluating an equation at a particular value, and word problems ( getting an equation from a described situation and solving it)."
"We went over absolute value equations. With some help, the student completed the absolute value worksheet. I then showed the student some word problems with absolute value and went over some key words. The student said that he got an A on his last math quiz!"
"We went over adding, subtracting, and multiplying polynomials. We went over solving different types of problems involving functions. We reviewed factoring quadratic expressions, using the quadratic equation, and completing the square (converting standard form to vertex form). For homework he was to complete the first practice test (he still needed to do the math sections). He needs to read over the explanations for the correct answers and make notes over what he is having trouble with so that we can work on those topics next time. He also needs to complete some math exercises over the topics that we reviewed."
