"Today, we covered the Verbal Reasoning section of the MCAT as well as some overall strategies to use on test day. Timing seems to be her biggest issue for the Verbal Reasoning so we did a couple of exercises I believe will help. She will do a full length VR test tonight and let me know how it goes. We also started some Physical Sciences but agreed that we will cover that more in depth next session. She has also agreed to start a Physical Sciences diagnostic test. She will email me a list of physical sciences topics to cover next session."

"For this session, the student and I reviewed any questions she had about the practice problems she had done the previous week. She missed fewer questions per passage by those she had done later in the week. We talked more about verbal reasoning strategies and set up goals for how much time she should use to read the passages. We discussed her looking through a speed reading course in addition to her practice problems for this week. We looked specifically at inference/implication/thematic expansion questions and then worked through some passages together where she explained her reasoning for how she got to the answer and I explained mine. For next week, she will continue her MCAT studying for 4 hours a day with at least 2-3 reading passages per day. "

We discussed the student's issues with the verbal reasoning section of the MCAT, and went over a brief summary of the study-guide's approach to verbal reasoning strategy. Mainly, we talked about how important it is to identify the main idea. Then, we went through a number of passages together, from a practice MCAT, talking through each question and answer choice, with emphasis on going back to the main idea, to answer each question. He did well on the practice questions, and he will do more practice, verbal reasoning passages, to work on getting the main idea."
