"We worked on the math section of the SSAT, focusing especially on geometry and line/coordinate geometry. I will be sending the student a review sheet for his upcoming SSAT test on Saturday."
"Worked on geometry section of admissions test. Focused on formulas and solving equations using formulas, angles, triangles, circles, and strategies to select the best answer choice by estimation. He worked extremely hard; he is never afraid to ask a question or persevere in finding a correct answer. Awesome job!"
"Today the student and I covered mostly math. I assigned him homework for the week so that he can be sure to be ready for his upcoming test. He is eager to learn and I am confident that with effort, the student will succeed in this course."
"We covered parametric equations to plot projectile motion (in the example, it was a ball being kicked at an angle). The student was able to understand that parametric equations don't relate the x- and y-coordinates to each other but rather to the time parameter, and she could solve for the time to reach the maximum height and the maximum height at that point. We then covered epicycloids, and she understood that the angle that mattered could be placed anywhere (not necessarily starting with the bottom portion on the x-axis)."
"He still hasn't received his test scores from his math teacher and had no homework to show. He said that he had completed the work at school, and I asked that he ask his teacher for the assignments back so that I can review them with him and make sure that he is comfortable with the material. We went over the problems that had been assigned, and it does seem like he is understanding what is being taught in his class."
"We looked over the student's trigonometry homework dealing with triangles/angles/sides. We reviewed reading strategies, reading for main purpose, looking for evidence, and re-phrasing the answer. We also talked about writing strategies, formal usage, and being aware of direct meaning. Finally, we reviewed math functions and systems."
