Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today's session focused on selected practice areas of the ISEE Lower Level Reading, Verbal, and Math tests. Extra practice with Reading Comprehension was mastered at 87% (8 out of 9). Verbal Reasoning was mastered at 100% (10 out of 10), with 5 sentence questions and 5 synonym questions. Math (probability) was mastered at 100% (2 out of 2). The student was motivated and engaged throughout the session. Overall, it was a good session. Our next session is scheduled for Friday."
"I reviewed with the student for an upcoming exam. Their teacher provided a review sheet with topics that will be on the test. The areas where the student had trouble were word problems involving supplementary and complementary angles. I spent most of the session helping the student to understand and solve these kinds of problems. They feel better prepared for the upcoming test."
"She and I covered solving proportion word problems, as well as other one variable equations. We worked with fractional equations, and I helped her with a skill of dividing before multiplying to simplify fractional equations. We also solved equations for one variable in terms of the others and using the distributive property to solve equations. She had a pretty good grasp of the material, and I felt I was able to help her solidify a few things, such as defining a variable (look for the question in the word problem) and simplifying fractions. She seemed very interested in learning, asked good questions and shut the door to keep our study room quiet. I did not leave her with extra work, and I did not see any grades. She did say she was going to stay after with her teacher tomorrow, before a test on Wednesday."
"Covered standard template library vectors and iterators, function templates, and class templates. Then, we went through a sample program that deals with a specialized tree of vector children."
"During today's session, we reviewed the student's stack of sight words, which he did well with today. As such, I added several words to his stack for next time. In addition, we played a review game of common vowel patterns seen in words including short vowel and long vowel patterns. Finally, we worked on spelling sight words at the end. There was some improvement this time so we will continue to use memorization strategies to help him become more confident and consistent in his spelling."
"We worked mainly on physical science diagnostic questions. Topics included Doppler effect, beta and alpha decay, solubility table, pH vs pOH, PI vs PH in electrophoresis gel, torque, kinematics, etc. We plan on doing CARS, physics, and some bio tomorrow during two sessions."
