Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student worked on reading comprehension and essay writing during this session. We reviewed the definition of infer, and he is learning to be more careful when he answers multiple choice reading comprehension questions."
"We reviewed some problems from earlier sessions on finding the optimal order quantities and on using simulations to find the expected production costs. We covered the economic ordering model with annual production and simulations using random variables in Excel. The student showed progress in her understanding and demonstrated her knowledge of the material."
"We went over thalassemia and the hereditary component of autosomal recessive disorders, blood typing, the importance of Rh factor in pregnant women, and HIT and DIC. I will send the videos that are a review of what we covered tonight and videos to help with the student's next topic."
"The student is doing a great job using the dictionary app I showed him to look up kanji and new words. We went over the rest of his reading homework today. For the next lesson, we're going to focus on his summary of one of the readings and other words he has to look up. Also, I gave him a link to a site that helps explain more difficult words in Japanese."
"We covered the essay portion of the test, and the student did an essay and I evaluated it for her. We talked about outlining before and then answering with a standard 5 paragraph essay. We evaluated her thesis and supporting details. She did a great job with the essay and expressed herself very well. We also covered vocabulary and the use of Latin and Greek roots to help find the meaning. I will look for a list of those roots to have for her at the next session. We went over the quantitative section and practiced the logic and probability type of questions and discussed strategies to solve them. We also did a few more reading comprehension questions that were all history related. I left her with vocabulary flashcards to practice. She struggles a bit with vocabulary, so I think the flashcards and also getting to know the Greek and Latin roots will help her overcome this difficulty."
"We went over some passages and discussed them in detail. We stressed the nature of passages and how it is important to first see if you can answer the questions without the passage, and then to rely on the passage only as necessary. We went over some examples where the passage can actually be confusing, misleading, or even lead to the wrong answer choice if misused. We also went over some of the database. We plan on looking at both passages and the database on Thursday. Topics today included the Doppler effect, H-H equation, buffers, sound, pitch, amplitude, etc."
