Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this lesson with the student, we worked on her Geometry homework. She is learning about congruent triangles and how to prove two triangles are congruent. Her homework was to write two-column proofs showing two triangles are congruent. She understood how to use the postulates to show two triangles were congruent, but she had trouble separating out the shapes in the drawings. She had trouble visualizing how each shape related to the others in the questions. I suggested that she practice looking just at the drawings in the homework and then try to find as many shapes as possible within each drawing to help her visualize things better. We will keep working on this next session."
"During this session, the student went through a worksheet concerning Section 4-4. In each problem, he was required to show that two specific parts of two triangles were congruent by first showing that the triangles themselves were congruent and then by making use of the fact that corresponding parts of congruent triangles are congruent. He did a nice job this session. He was able to work through most of the problems with very little help from me, with the exception of having me identify at most one or two mistakes he made within any given proof. During the last twenty minutes of our session, we went through some of his mistakes that he had made on a recent quiz. Nice work this session!"
"During this session, we reviewed solving quadratic equations using the swing method, guess and check, the zero product property, and the quadratic equation. The student did quite well. We checked his grades as well - they're a huge improvement from last year."
"During today's session, the student and I continued to review for his upcoming midterm assessment. Our focus was on writing proofs of triangle congruency and finding missing angle measurements for various geometric figures."
"For geometry, we reviewed transformations and line of symmetry. We discussed translations, reflections, dilations, and rotations. Then for history, we compared and contrasted the cultures of Athens and Sparta."
"For our first session, the student and I worked on a review of his geometry homework assignment. We had a great session and it was great to meet him. We talked about a wide variety of theorems and how to use them along with their converses and concurrencies. These included the angle bisector, Pythagorean, perpendicular bisector, triangle midsegments and a variety of other theorems, along with the application of special right triangles and CPCTC. The session went great, and I look forward to working with and helping him."
