Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This marathon session was dedicated to a physics problem set in preparation for a quiz this evening. We covered engines, refrigerators, and efficiency in detail. After we finished these topics, we got a head start on the lab write-up, which is the goal for the rest of the week."
"Today we went over Latin homework and "The Iliad." We reviewed previous assignments that the student did, such as the one he worked on with his classmates for "Exodus." Also, we talked about how things are going in school and practical life skills that he can apply now and in the future."
"We reviewed writing quadratic equations in vertex form, finding intercepts, and determining the vertex, minimum, and maximum value. The student struggled at first with determining the intercepts. After explaining, the student understood the concepts. The student kept a positive attitude throughout the session. The student took a test recently. He does not know the result, but is confident that he did well."
"We spent a lot of time working on word problems because that is the thing she still struggles with the most. We will keep working on getting her comfortable with them."
"The student did really well tonight. Since there was a month in between our first session and this one, I chose to thoroughly review what we had covered in our first session, so we started tonight's session with that. Then we proceeded with a thorough exploration of Prompt #1 as provided by the Common Application website. Our thorough exploration included an actual essay a high school senior had written in response to Prompt #1, followed by a discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of that essay. I left her with the assignment of having a first draft in response to Prompt #1 ready by this Friday's session for her and me to discuss and revise. Thanks for your great, hard work today."
"We completed the multiple-choice portion of a practice test, then identified specific areas to do extra practice on, including percent change and more difficult coordinate geometry problems. The student is doing well with the first two thirds of this section. We'll go over the last third next week."
