Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed gustar, irregular verbs, and a couple of the reflections. He was able to take a short quiz online; this was to assess his capabilities and functioning with the reflexive verbs, the irregular verb, and the indirect object pronouns. He has shown significant growth."
"We covered conditionals (si clauses) and reviewed a quiz that the student had taken last week. We broke the conditional topic down into three forms of the conditional - the first, second, and third conditional. We covered the formula that we use to form each conditional sentence and wrote out verb charts for imperfect subjunctive and future tense. We also practiced conjugating irregular verbs, such as "poder" and "haber." Finally, we talked about participles and the 12 irregulars for participles. I made sure to emphasize the importance of memorizing irregular verbs because if you know the formula for each form of the conditional, as well as all the irregular verbs, forming "si clauses" will be much easier. She did a great job recognizing irregulars, correcting errors on her quiz, and explaining certain concepts back to me."
"Today we practiced vocabulary from the section, via flashcards and his online practice tools. He improved from the beginning of the session to the end, but still has some words that he has a hard time with and needs to practice more before his quiz on Friday. I recommended he practice the flashcards several times over the next few days, as well as practicing fill in the blanks with Spanish definitions."
"The student and I walked through a full unit on entertainment (specifically tv and literature topics). The student took the unit test, scoring 80-90% (estimated) on the multiple choice answers. We also completed a portfolio project where the student created three Spanish tv channels with associated programs. Then, he wrote brief critiques of those programs."
"The student has a Spanish presentation due soon so we focused on that for the first 45 minutes. Afterwards, we went over vocabulary and past tense conjugation. While the student was uncomfortable with reading and pronunciation (particularly vowel sounds), after breaking down the sounds and bit of repetition, he was able to read better. This made us both happy. For homework, he is to study vocab for upcoming exam as well as voice record his presentation."
"The student and I worked on several things today including working on Spanish and Math as well. We also looked through all his missing assignments and completed those. Organization we worked on a little too. Overall he did great and got a ton of work done."
