Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed and practiced SER and ESTAR for "to be". We completed some exercises on the 1st chapter (Soy, soy de..., articulos, gender, etc). The student's attitude is outstanding. Multiple study skills were included in the lesson. I left the student with plenty of extra practice and review."
"The student and I started using her new Spanish workbook. We got close to completing The Numbers chapter. I noticed significant improvement during this session. We will continue to work on the student's book for our next session (the alphabet)."
"The student has an exam tomorrow so we spent the tutoring session studying for it. The grammatical concepts to be covered include comparisons ("mas que," "menos que" and "tan como"), the preterite, and double object pronouns. We reviewed each of these through a series of conjugation, fill-in-the-blank and translation exercises. He seems to have a good grasp of all of the concepts, and when he did make a mistake, he caught on very quickly in correcting it. With a bit more review I anticipate that he will be well prepared for the exam."
"Today, we continued to practice using question words: filling blanks with the right question words and writing questions in Spanish. I noticed that it was more challenging for the student to write full questions so I advised him to circle the verbs and to reuse them in the sentences. We also discussed the importance of analyzing the meaning of the answers. This naturally led to finding out the piece of information that was pointed at. Our next topic was based on comparison. He chose the right options without hesitation and translated the sentences in Spanish successfully."
"We talked about nonverbal communication, and using some other ways to express what we want. We did it by playing and drawing and after that we talked about different topics related with the vocabulary. Right now we are working in correcting genre mistakes of words while speaking, basically the exceptions that are the hardest to know unless you memorize them. The student did great, we are also working on his fluency."
"The student and I went through his next composition, which included many opportunities to use the past imperfect tense. We went over some proofreading strategies, and develop a studying/ tutoring strategy for the rest of the semester."
