Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I spent all of our time working on a project for Language Arts. She is expected to create a front page of a fictional newspaper. We spent our time brainstorming ideas and then writing the stories. She seemed to enjoy making up the stories. We got a lot done."
"The student corrected a dictation paper that needed quotation marks, commas, and capital letters. He practiced writing the plural forms of certain words. He read an expository text about Tasmanian devils, and then had to answer comprehension questions about the summary. He also completed vocabulary questions, and cause and effect questions regarding this same topic. I had him do a spelling test at the end based on words that I saw he misspelled in his schoolwork. He did very well!"
"For this session, I discussed with the student two books that he has been reading outside of school. We also began working with vocabulary words from a list that he has been studying. I told him we will have impromptu spelling bees so that he is keeping up with the vocabulary words."
"We reviewed the assessment test packet information concerning Context Clues. Then, we used a Cloze Reading selection on the U.S. Constitution to practice context clues/vocabulary. The student began a second Cloze selection about the Earth, which he promised to complete by our next session on Thursday. He is a hard worker and has made lots of progress."
"The student worked on a foreshadowing essay on the book, "The Bad Beginning." She has been working on reading measurements and showed improvement today. Afterwards, she did an active/passive writing worksheet and a quick fact finding worksheet. Lastly, she read out loud from "The Bad Beginning.""
