Session Summaries by Physiology Tutors

Nassau County, NY Physiology tutoring
The student and I went through her chemistry review packet and problems in the book. She had the most difficulty with inter vs. intra molecular forces and predicting properties of an equation. I sent her notes I had made earlier covering some of the material, and then went through and broke down the line of reasoning she should go through to solve each type of problem. She seemed much more confident by the end of the session.

I went through a review with the students to help uncover any problems they might have. One was quite comfortable with the material. The other had a couple questions which we worked through over electrostatics and images. After the session he felt a lot more comfortable with some questions he had from class and informed me he would be going through his review and sending me any questions he has.

We went through a couple of review sheets together. She understood most of the concepts and her only real issue was projectile motion. I sent her a video to help break it down and get her to fully understand the concept of x and y components. I am confident that she will do well on this exam if she continues to review all of the problems we completed.

We focused on stoichiometry and using molar mass, Avogadro's number, and balanced chemical equations to complete stoichiometric calculations. The student was struggling most with her confidence and being able to see that more complex problems are simply many simpler parts in serial order. I gave her strategies for analyzing problems and setting up dimensional analysis and showed her how to check her answers based on whether units cancel out. I did not leave her with extra practice or see any grades.

The session was conducted on an alternative platform. We worked on providing explanation and examples using the Galerkin method or the method of weighted residuals. This is a technique used in the finite element method to solve differential equations. I will provide a more detailed follow-up of the finite element method next time. The results were compiled in a document to aid with test review.
