Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we covered some of Chapter 16, The Gunpowder Empires, including Ottoman, Safavid, and Mughal empires. I've asked the student to complete the two essay assignments from several sessions ago."
"We talked about the Inca and Aztec civilizations, and I helped the student with a few homework questions. I also provided her with some information on Puebloan peoples."
"The student and I focused on going back through the information he has received since our last meeting, as we normally do for these sessions. In conjunction with these we did a series of critical thinking exercises."
"During the first part of the session, the student worked on drafting a portion of an essay for history class. After that, we discussed the circumstances surrounding her upcoming history test. Her teacher had a death in the family and has been away from class. It's unclear if the test date will be changed. Nonetheless, we spent the rest of the session going over a practice test."
"We covered the emergence of China as an empire and talked about her worries in her AP class. I think she is going to be fine overall with the subject."
"Now that we have finished catching the student up on the first eight chapters that he missed from the beginning of the year, we switched gears to begin studying for the AP test overall. We reviewed some of the early material using the prep book, and he was able to recall most of the key points. We started doing some practice multiple-choice questions, and again, he did fairly well. The next time we meet, we will focus more on preparing for his upcoming in-class test. He has a good grasp of overall historical trends and a strong memory of interesting historical details. Practicing test-taking strategies and drilling the key terms should help him succeed on the test and in the class."
