Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I covered slope, standard form, slope intercept formula, and point slope formula. She struggled with these topics, so she wanted to review it and get a more concrete understanding. She was prepared for the session and ready to jump in. I demonstrated shortcuts and specific strategies for her that are easy to remember when dealing with these topics. The student was given several practice problems in which she struggled with a few, but she successfully completed the majority of them without my assistance. Wins from this session included her math skills being improved, and she is able to recognize the mistakes that she makes and correct them more quickly."
"Today the student and I reviewed polynomials (add/subtract/multiply), solving equations (multi-step) and then we began reviewing rational exponent equations. I noticed that he was having problems adding/subtracting with positive and negative numbers. We talked about how if we refer to the positive/negative as I have/I owe, it might help, and it did. I will continue to check that he can successfully add/subtract integers. His attitude toward the different topics was welcoming, so it wasn't hard to tell him or show him where he was going wrong. Great work!"
"Today the student and I studied for a quiz on adding variables, FOIL, and finding the greatest common factor. He did well on his studying."
"Today the student and I went over her homework. She had reviewed problems that covered solving inequalities and substitution. The main part of the homework was on writing equations for rate of change problems. She was able to complete the homework and understood the basic concepts. She is having a few minor problems with integer operations. I gave her a few ideas of how to work with integers so that she gets the answer right."
"Today the student and I went over his study guide packet. We were only able to make it about halfway through the packet, so the student and I feel that another session before his exam tomorrow night would be beneficial. As always, he was very positive and willing to learn. He is a pleasure to work with."
"Today the student and I went over systems of equations and the substitution method. I feel like we made some good progress in making it an intuitive process for her, which I think is the most important aspect of learning a new concept. She was doing very well by the end, so I left the last few problems of her homework for her to try out alone."
