Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we went over practice problems that the student had completed on his own. He has been doing 20 problems each day like I recommended to him, and says that he feels much more confident in solving them. Next time we meet, we are going to focus on improving his speed, now that he is comfortable with the content. He will do practice problems and mark down any that he thinks take him too long to figure out the answer. When he brings those problems to me, I will show him how to do them faster."
"Since last session, the student took a practice test. Her scores were awesome!! We saw huge improvements on OChem and GChem, scoring an 18 and 19. This is up from previous scores. The only score that was a little problematic was QR. So, today we went over the QR section. We spent a lot of time really going through the problems, understanding how they are different and how to solve them. It was a great session."
"The session went well. The student and I went over her chapters of biology that she has covered, and pulled out the main points to reiterate them. Then the last hour and a half, we did practice problems and I explained anything that needed further clarification and things she might see on the test. Next time we meet, she should be done with biology so I can do a comprehensive quizzing."
"The student and I reviewed organic chemistry problems, specific benzene reactions, pattern folding, and top front end questions. They are studying well. We reviewed strategies for solving problems and the mechanisms for organic chemistry reactions."
"Today we reviewed more SAT math questions. We went over how to calculate degree measurements of angles in a circle, factoring quadratic equations, compound interest formulas, and calculating percentages of whole and mixed numbers. I showed the student how to shave some time off the problems by using the calculator, and shortcuts when converting fractions into decimals. The problems became more clear to him about how to find the quickest way to the answer. Lastly, we touched on some writing techniques, which he seems to understand more."
"We worked on physical science and biology diagnostics. Topics included circuits, voltage and current and resistance, circuits with both parallel and series resistance, capacitors, Prader-Willis and Angelman genetics, Hardy-Weinberg, recessive allele frequency, etc."
