"The student and I worked on practice GRE math problems together. In doing this, we discovered that his main problem areas were in terms of algebraic rules, radical rules, exponent rules, and geometric concepts and formulas. I encouraged him to review these concepts, as I am confident that once he has these foundational skills mastered, he will find more success in the GRE math exams. In terms of reviewing these concepts, I suggested making flash cards for formula equations, and going on websites to review algebraic and geometric concepts. I believe that his critical thinking and approach to these GRE math problems is completely on the right track; he just needs some review to ensure that he is computing each problem correctly. We will continue to work on this."
"The student completed her homework. She did very well with the Arithmetic homework and struggled a bit with the Algebra and Geometry. We reviewed some specific questions she had in these areas, and once I explained them, they made much more sense to her. We also reviewed some geometry basics. Since she isn't readily processing the geometry problems, homework consisted of worksheets with focused work so she can get comfortable applying geometry formulas and working on some other content."
"The student is doing well learning the material. We finished all the practice problems in one of our GRE books, and then we moved on to the practice problems in another GRE book. He just needs to practice more and more over our breaks. He has seen and understood every concept, and just needs more practice to see the many different ways they can ask a problem."
"The student needed some significant review of fraction-related concepts. She had issues throughout her homework, so I took today to review the basics of arithmetic with fractions. We also worked through factoring into prime factors, and I introduced some basic issues surrounding exponents. We will build on these latter elements next time."
"The student seemed to be getting back into the groove, and we've scheduled 2 more sessions before her exam next Monday. She's starting to apply the strategies we've discussed more comfortably, so I have high hopes for her on this exam!"
"The student was a very easy-to-work-with student and enthusiastic about learning the material. She was excellent with algebra and functions, but she needed some brushing up in probability and word problems. We will keep plugging away with that next week and start delving into geometry as well."
