"We covered chapters 1 and 2 in the student's textbook. The topics included: defining a function, direct relationships (y=kx), slope-intercept form (y=mx+b) and point-slope form (y-y1=m(x-x1)), transformations of functions, absolute value functions, and some graphing practice for linear functions. His understanding seems to be pretty solid on these topics, so next week we'll be able to move on to chapter 3 with more graphing (which he says he will need more practice on) and some more complex relationships. I am encouraging the student to write out each step of the problems he works on. I told him that it seems tedious now, but it will make tricky problems in the future much easier. This is an important habit to form now before he starts having homework and tests on the subject."
"The student and I discussed the requirements of her research paper and decided how to design and simulate her mock studies."
"The student submitted all his late work. We worked oh this week's homework and he should be able to submit it tomorrow on time."
"I checked the student's math homework. After doing this, I assigned him two worksheets, which consisted of multiplication, borrowing, etc. He did a good job today. I assigned him homework and we played a very quick game of chess when we were done."
"Student A was very excited to get his homework done today so that he could get back to playing outside. He completed a worksheet where he illustrated his spelling words, and math. Student B had already completed her math at school, so all she had to do was make a crossword puzzle with the definitions of her spelling words. Student C started with her word study sentences and Lit Circle. Then she had a short quiz in math at school today, and her homework in the subject was to complete it. She had only two questions left on it, so that was quick. Then I gave her practice questions in the areas she has the least confidence in for math, and quizzed her in social studies. I think she will do well on those tests this week."
"We covered a practice state assessment test from a workbook that I previously provided. We focused on problem solving skills and solving the word problems to get the solution instead of trying to fit solutions into the problems. I also recommended the use of a website to help reinforce skills daily."
