Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"First we reviewed materials from the previous session, including dates and body parts. We drew cartoons on the board to refresh colors and body parts. Today's new vocab was: baby. We also talked more in Chinese during the session, and she can now understand more instruction phrases. She's becoming more comfortable in casual Chinese conversation."
"We went over the list of phrases as a review and practice together. I corrected the pronunciations of some words as we went through the list. Then we looked at the characters in the phrases we talked about individually. I explained what each character means by itself, and how the characters together give meaning to certain words in Chinese. This process helps connect all the words we learned to each other, and makes it possible to associate particular characters with their meanings, especially when they appear a lot in the conversation. We plan to finish going through the list and do a final practice next session."
"In today's session, we went through 50 flashcards and a book about farm animals I brought. We also discussed an ''I spy'' book I brought. I encouraged the students to use Chinese as much as possible during class. We went through words about numbers, colors, fruits, and animals. We went through another set of flashcards and learned some new characters, including nouns and adjectives (sound, meaning, and writing). I gave them each a sheet to practice writing characters."
