Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I spent this tutoring session reviewing one of his writing assignments. Within his writing, we worked on the following grammatical issues: verb usage and tense (when to use past vs present tense) and article usage (a/an/the). We also worked on adjusting the clarity of his writing and perfecting the punctuation of his writing. He was a pleasure to work with; he consistently responded well to my advice and came up with solutions on his own when prompted."
"We spent the session playing Scale again. I believe the student is progressing with the game, and seeing how to turn his affinity for puzzles and patterns and apply them to letters and English. There were some words I put down that he did not know. I made a list of the words, and he is to use the woods in a story for next week. I will see the student next Thursday."
"Today we worked on the thesis statement and outline for the student's essay. We continued polishing the thesis statement by working on adding a little bit more detail to it. She had received a grade of 95 for the thesis, the only teacher comment being that it could use some more detail. Although 95 is certainly more than a passable grade, she wanted to work on the thesis a little more to make it that much better, and I think she has a very good understanding now of how to construct one. Then, we worked on the outline for the essay, talking about how to organize and structure the outline, and what information was pertinent and what was not. We also talked about narrowing the focus of the essay and how to decide what information to include in it. In working on the outline, we talked about how to plan an introduction, each argument, and a conclusion for an essay, focusing on what information is needed for each and how they should be structured."
