Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Both Student 1 and Student 2 had written essays for me. Student 1 finished with her essay after only 20 minutes. Through more essay-writing practice, I hope for her to improve her writing to achieve a score of 5. We will continue to work on this in future sessions. The ideas Student 2 has to write about are good ones. Both of them have been including good details in their essays. I had them look at some reading comprehension questions after that. Student 1 was able to give the correct answer to almost all the questions. Finally, we went over one of the grammar sections from one of the practice tests. Their homework is to take another practice test."
"During my first session with the student, we focused on the essay and multiple-choice writing section of the SAT. Prior to administering the essay prompt, I spoke with him briefly about what he feels are the areas in which he needs the most improvement and the results of his diagnostic test. While he scored a 760 on the critical reading section, he expressed that he was very surprised he did as well as he did and mentioned that it is very possible for him to do a 760 one day and a 680 the next on this section. Noting this, I recommend that we work on critical reading as well as the writing section. I also want to build his vocabulary, so I have provided him with vocabulary lists via email to use as supplementary practice outside of our sessions together. I am encouraged by some of the language and word choice he utilized in his essay as they showed adequate mastery. Following our discussion of my feedback, we moved on to a timed writing multiple-choice section. Overall, he performed very well. He only missed 3 of 35 questions. He did very well overall."
"On Thursday, the student and I went over more math tests and one essay prompt. We went over the slope intercept equation, how to find the x-intercept, and the y-intercept. We also went over a couple of word problems that combined various shapes and geometric figures and asked us to find different areas and angle measures. As far as the essay goes, the topic was, "Is challenging the people in authority correct and/or necessary?" We went over an outline of how I would personally approach the topic. I advised him to review and complete at least two math tests before we meet next time as well as going over at least 25 SAT vocabulary words every single day."
