Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We discussed the student's assignment for this week. I edited the grammar and use of argumentation in his work. We went through the edits line by line and discussed the reasoning behind them. I suggested he write a new concluding sentence."
"We reviewed the edits the girls did to their allowance essay, continued working on the admission essay and looked over commonly misused terms. For next time, the girls will complete the editing exercise handout and will prepare a (creative) rough draft of their admissions essay."
"Today we looked at the essay draft. It looks like the student was able to organize ideas well and keep a cohesive theme. Although daunting, the assignments are looking good. "After a test, the student found that the following words needed more practice: brake, laughed, alphabet, Kansas, attack, muffin, giraffe, and elephant. We then did a brief practice while using the words in answers to questions. We talked about the curriculum plan and the first assignment - a three-paragraph Star Wars-related short story about C-3PO to be done by Monday night."
"Again this week, the student and I talked about aspects of grammar. Today we focused on a couple of specific types of punctuation including semicolons, colons, exclamation marks, and apostrophes. We also discussed when capitalization is necessary. I asked her to write me a short paragraph about a weird dream, and then we went through the dream together making minor adjustments. We finished to session with a few analogies."
