Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was my first session with the student, so I administered a diagnostic to start with. He explained to me at the start of the session that he was not a big fan of reading comprehension and struggled with it a lot on the SAT. We spent the session working our way through a diagnostic test, going through about three passages' worth of reading and questions, and along the way I gave him test-taking tips and helped coach him in the English literature concepts and definitions he was lacking. I will not be able to see him again for a while, so I assigned him roughly 60 pages of reading on all the concepts, ideas, and definitions he was missing, as well as reading on the different types of passage he would come up against during the test in order to better understand how to break down and understand said passages. I do believe he will be able to improve before the test and I will strive to do everything I can for him! I'm confident we'll be able to make progress."
"We covered some test taking tips and skills. He scored a 900 on his last practice SAT. Student is to begin vocabulary work immediately."
"The student needs to practice maintaining her concentration in addition to studying the individual subjects. We also worked on the science section. She's reading plenty fast. I think she's losing a lot of time to hard problems, and she needs to adopt an approach where she's OK letting one or two questions go (with educated answers, if not 100% confidence) in order to make sure she finishes three or four extra problems by the end."
