Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We continued our statistics review and also did a brief introduction to algebra. The student has gotten very good with statistics. I am confident she will have a strong start to her school year but feel she should continue to supplement her classwork with outside practice."
"The student and I looked through his HL math IA and corrected it while working on ideas for expanding the breadth of his topic."
"The student and I focused on 6th grade math work. We set a timer and took short 2 minute breaks every 10-15 minutes. She had a quiz from her math class that she took last Friday that we used as our guide. We went through and discussed different strategies for the ten problems. The problems specifically focused on mental math (rounding), order of operations, decimals, and some long division. She was very strong in her manipulation of decimals, and place value after the decimal point. We also reviewed PEMDAS and order of operations. Besides the math content, she and I also talked about some study strategies. She is an active young lady, who likes hands-on activities, so we talked about some study strategies that she could use and be active at the same time. We also discussed some organization and "math work" tips. She had an upbeat and positive outlook throughout our time together. I shared some interactive math resources that I told her to check out if she finds time. I also left her with a small dry erase white board that she can use to practice math problems. We will use this next session, for a quick warm up activity at the beginning of our time. For next session, she will bring any math homework or materials from her classes over the next week. We will also continue to work on long division. I look forward to our future work together!"
"Today the student and I worked on simplifying complex numbers, factoring polynomials, trigonometric functions, and the unit circle. Great attitude as always!"
"Today the student finished his summer homework. We also began to go over algebra 2 basics, in order to strengthen his foundations. We covered solving linear and quadratic equations, intercepts and vertices, logarithms, and the basics of differentials. I have assigned the student some problems for homework, and will go over them with him on Thursday."
"Today the student and I continued reviewing some of her algebra II material. We went through a few problems on worksheets that I was sent prior to the session. We started off with a review of inequalities and then I moved on to absolute value inequalities and I finished with a review of point slope, slope intercept, and standard form of equations of a line and how to convert between them. She did well today; she made minimal mistakes and was usually able to correct her mistakes when prompted by additional questions by me. At the end of the session she told me that she did not have any additional questions for me and we concluded the session. She wants to do another session closer to the next time she has an exam."
