Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We first reviewed the student's homework, which was review of the topics we've covered: similar triangles, ratios, angles, and proofs. He had no trouble with that. Then we went over partitioning line segments, which is the topic he is having a quiz on. At first we had some trouble, but then I switched to the teaching the material the way his teacher taught it and he was able to understand and apply it much easier. He was able to solve several partition problems completely on his own so I think he should do fine on the quiz."
"The student and I worked on drawing angle bisectors, perpendicular bisectors, triangle medians and triangle altitudes. I gave her outlines of the steps she needed to take in order to complete each of the drawings. Once we went through the steps together, she was able to complete them on her own by following the outline I made for her. We also covered some material we have seen before, finding missing coordinates. She wanted a refresher. We spent a good portion of time discussing how to read graphs and logically get through the problems. She told me that she had a greater understanding after we discussed it, so I will ask her about it next session to check for understanding."
"Today, the student and I went over a unit circle worksheet he got from his teacher. He was able to finish the entire worksheet in our session. For the most part, he only needed confirmation on what he already thought about the questions. He already had what he needed in his notes and his brain, and we were able to simply talk through the problems to improve his understanding. As usual, I would like him to send me anything he has problems with throughout the week so we can work on them during our next session."
"Today was the student's first tutoring session and it was a good session. We went over the rules and expectations for the tutoring sessions and I believe it was a good conversation to have. Since it was our first session, I went through the whole book to see what she had learned and what sections she needs improvement. In addition, we did review on 30-60-90 degree right triangles and 45-45-90 degree triangles. This is to learn how to solve for the lengths and sides. I instructed her to do a lot more practice on these problems in addition to the cosine law problems. I told her that we will do a lot of practice on these and that we will talk more in our next tutoring session. I think I cleared up some fuzzy concepts that made sense to her and I believe that she will improve and understand the whole picture of geometry. Overall, today was a good session and she was very respectful and very well engaged. I look forward to having more sessions with her."
"In this session the student worked on her homework, which covered various aspects of special right triangles over several sections of chapter nine. After she finished her assignment, we did some more practice problems with special right triangles in preparation for her quiz the next day."
"We reviewed arc lengths, but mainly focused our attention on wavelengths and VSEPR. There was a lot of material but I left the student with a study sheet that, if he studies, he will do well on chemistry with."
