Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I helped the student study for his vocab of the week. We analyzed each word's construction and meaning, then we studied compound words; then we used these words to make sentences. At the end, I did some dictations on the words and the student practiced making sentences."
"I can tell the student studied before we had our lesson. He memorized most of the vocabulary we went through. He is very hard working and the most important thing is he wants to learn. I am sure he will be great in Mandarin."
"In this session, we played together, the games including cutting the fruits (toys), animals, and other toys the student had at home. During play, we used repetition practice in order to enhance the student's memory and impressions about the vocabulary. The student was more open to talk to me and willing to speak Mandarin. His grandmother told me that once he was even counting numbers in Mandarin by himself, which I thought it was a big progress. On the other hand, I found out that while the student lost his interest in one activity, I could just play along with him and talk to him in Mandarin so that I was able to create a Mandarin speaking environment for him."
"The numbers higher than one hundred were covered today. We also reviewed the double object pronouns. The student practiced speaking, listening comprehension and writing. He is very intelligent, so he is improving a lot in his Spanish skills. Congratulations!"
"The student and I began our session with a short quiz to review last week's material. We then delved into some new vocabulary as well as some new grammar concepts including the indefinite article and Spanish adjective placement. He seemed to pick up on the new vocabulary pretty quickly, but was still struggling with some of the conjugations for ser and estar. We decided to practice those verbs and our new vocabulary before moving on to additional verbs. I think that with a little bit of practice outside of tutoring, he will be speaking Spanish in no time."
"The student and I began the session with a review of comparatives, and we created a mini vocabulary list for this concept. We worked on using cardinal and ordinal numbers, and I provided her with a large vocabulary set to study and keep in her binder. We spent the remainder of the session reviewing the past participle and working on some short reading comprehension passages."
