Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Things were a little different for our session this time. The student has been doing very well with his Latin and has been producing high marks on his quizzes; I've also given him a head start on the material he'll be covering for the rest of the year (3rd declension and imperfect and future verb tenses). While he's been succeeding in Latin, he's started to have challenges in the classical civilizations component of his class, so our meeting today was focused more on classics than Latin. The student's class is just starting their unit on ancient Greek civilization and are studying the Minoans and Mycenaeans, so I tried to give him an overview of those cultures in conjunction with the assigned readings and worksheets he has to do. By the end of our session he felt ambitious enough to fill out one of his homework worksheets without my help. For our next meeting I anticipate a similar focus on classics, so I assigned him to read some of the background material included in his schoolwork packet so we can tackle classical and Hellenistic Greece next time."
"Our session went very well. We covered generalized test prep strategies, as well as filling in the gaps in her study guide (the spread of Islam in North Africa). She is an inquisitive and organized student and I look forward to our next session!"
"We spent the session going over a study guide from his teacher for a chapter about Congress. He did better on his last test. I suggested that next time we meet, if he has a study guide like this time, that he have it completely filled out so I am not looking through the textbook for the answers while we are studying."
