Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, we decided to focus on practicing Reading and more Mathematics. I led him through a practice Reading section, giving him guidance on tough questions and advice as needed. Then we circled back to practice more Mathematics, as that was the section he had had the toughest time with on the diagnostic test. We began working at question 30 of a practice Math test, in order for the student to gain more experience with the variety of questions in the most difficult portion of the Mathematics section. I gave him opportunities to work through problems in his own way, praising the problem-solving strategies he invented, and only stepped in when he wasn't sure how to proceed or had made a calculation error. On some questions, I gave him minimal guidance in the form of information about the math concepts or formulas needed to solve the question, or provided him with a starting point for thinking about the question, then allowed him to work it out for himself from there. Although he still sometimes makes errors and may fall into some trap answers, his approach to the Math section has shown definite improvement. By gaining a better understanding of the types of challenges he will face on the test, he is more prepared and better equipped to do well."
"We covered strategies for taking the reading portion of the test, and we walked through a practice reading test that the student had taken."
"We went through homework from reading class 2 and science class 2. We did a practice reading test and reviewed strategies for the ACT."
