Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we continued to work on strategies to help the student not count on his fingers. In addition, we have begun to focus more on reading. Today we reviewed what vowels were. In addition, I have had him read all of his homework out loud, and we have been working on how to sound out longer words. We will begin to read books and focus on improving his reading level."
"Today, the student and I worked on a letter assessment. He knew 18/26 letters. We reviewed the letter song and played an alphabet and sounds game. We practiced letters V,W, Y. We also played an alphabet order game and worked on phonics letters E-J."
"We covered fifth grade reading comprehension, with a focus on defining unknown words with context clues. We also worked on discovering information from stories that is implied rather than directly written. He remained motivated and engaged throughout the session. He seemed to do slightly better with the fiction comprehension piece. He struggled with some of the larger vocabulary words on the historical non-fiction piece. He seems to excel at finding hidden meanings, but struggles with defining words based on the surrounding information. I introduced the strategy of metacognition- I encouraged him to think about what he is reading rather than just read the words. He reads very well, with excellent pacing and pronunciation."
"We covered sight words and reading comprehension. The student was struggling the most with b and d and completely changing words in the reading passages. The student wanted to learn. I did include strategies in this session. I did not leave them with any extra practice. I did not see any scores to note progress. The parent scheduled another lesson for the same day and time next week."
"We discussed where the student was in both Reading and Math. I began to assess him in reading and math. We discussed where he felt his strengths and weaknesses were. He is a strong reader and reads fluently above grade level but will need to work on his comprehension as the texts become more difficult. We will continue building on his foundational knowledge in math, as well as building further into grade level standards."
"We had our introductory session discussing her strengths and weaknesses. She needs help in phonics, completing homework, spelling, and multiplication. We worked on completing her homework, discussing time management, and reading."
