Morton Grove, IL Languages tutoring
Today we worked a lot on ser and estar, and we perfected some irregular present tense i.e. stem changers. The student is doing well due to her exposure to Spanish a few years ago. She is always eager to learn and is going to work on doing more work between sessions. So far, we are meeting once a week.

Clase # 2: La Bastille • Topics o Reviewing together vocabulary sheet "La Comida" o "Persons" in Spanish: Yo, Tu, Usted, El, Ella, Nosotros, Ustedes, Ellos & Ellas. o Introduction to the conjugation of verbs in the present tense according to the noun: SER (To Be), TENER (To Have), CONOCER (to Know). • We worked on: building in-context vocabulary (for the restaurant), focused on dialogues, building fluency. • Attitude: It is so awesome that you are making the most of all your day to day experiences! Learning from people around you and not being afraid to ask questions & text friends in Spanish is wonderful. • Encouraged: Remembering vocabulary through the overall meaning not just word-by-word translation ("no hay de que"). Use q-cards to practice your verbs and vocabulary as needed while on the go. Remember to log in the topics on your notebook "index". • Homework: o Finish personal statement: 2-3 Paragraphs. Talk about yourself, "Spanglish" is all right to use at this point; we will fill in the gaps together next session. o Re-visit the summary dialogue sheet & vocabulary sheet given to you. o Review the conjugations for those 3 verbs we looked at. • WIN: You are so much more open to practicing and "risking" to approach others for help and gain knowledge. You will succeed with that motivation. o Homework questions from class 1. o Review personal essay. o We will rehearse sentences with SER, TENER & CONOCER. o Optional: Bring a Spanish phrase book, should there be a section on restaurants/food, we can put it to good use.

Today we started with our usual review of previous material before moving on. We completed an exercise that involved answering some questions about family-related vocabulary and a reading activity. We then completed a worksheet which was about possessive adjectives and parts of speech. This included some new vocabulary, as we had not previously gone over adjectives in much detail. This activity went well and included some grammar rules regarding agreement in gender and number of nouns and adjectives. We will continue working with these more in future lessons in order to reinforce the material.
