"We worked on the student's math assignment. She was working on equivalent fractions and lowest common denominators. We went through each of the problems and she figured out the correct answers."
"Introduction to differential calculus. Limits of functions, average gradient of a function, obtaining gradient by bracketing, obtaining by delta h method as first principle of differentiation, and shortcut to differentiation."
"The student is currently working on solving rational functions in his algebra class. He needed some help working through concepts in solving equations containing variables in mixed fractions. I gave examples of two ways to solve the functions involving either using common denominators to combine fractions into a single expression and cross multiplying or with methods that can eliminate the fractions individually. He said he felt a lot more confident in the material after our session and had a better understanding of the information."
"We continued where we left of Friday. The student's substitution technique still needs work but he's making progress in remembering his other calculus 1 skills. I began with a review of the unit circle and how we can use it to compute various inverse trigonometric functions. Then I explained how to use a table of integrals to quickly solve some trigonometric integrals. We ended with a discussion about hyperbolic trigonometric functions and how to use them in calculus. If he's given a table of integrals he can generally figure out the correct solution."
"In this session, I helped the student with extended concepts of probability, factorials, combination and permutation notation. She tried some practice problems while I guided her through them with problem-solving strategies. I also had her work on some problems that I have covered before. She did well on most problems, but there were a couple problems that she wanted clarification on, so I went over them until she understood and felt good about them. At the end of our session, I left her with some more problems for more practice. She is making steady and good progress, and in the next session, I will continue discussing the combination and permutation as well as any materials that she would like to discuss."
"During this session, we practiced converting between fractions, decimals, and percents. She understood this very well and didn't have any problems with it. We then completed her mid-chapter review to review all the concepts covered so far in the chapter. She did well on this and could do most of the problems on her own. We then moved on to review the next section which was finding the percent of a number. She caught on to this pretty well too and seemed confident in her understanding by the end of the session."
