Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent time getting to know one another and began practice on solving for variables using the lessons in geometry she had learned, such as supplementary, complementary, alternate interior angles, and so on. She seems to really easily get it. The problems she had were with being able to pick out relationships when the drawings weren't setup to clearly show that relationship, and simple math errors too. She will be getting her report card soon."
"We covered exponential functions and the associated graphs. We covered exponential growth, exponential decay, the general form of an exponential equation, writing an exponential equation for real-life situations that can be modeled using exponential functions and solving for the equation of an exponential function when given 2 distinct points. The student was receptive of the material, although they had not covered the topic in class. He had a little difficulty with finding the value when numbers were raised to the power, but that was because he was insistent on using mental math. After he wrote down the problems the difficulty went away."
"We covered more factoring, but this time dealing with factoring by grouping and factoring perfect cubes. He was very attentive throughout and we got through almost double the original homework assignment. He didn't have too many problems factoring by grouping, but I did explain to him the concept behind it and why it works. Also, for perfect cubes, I had him rewrite the original equation so it would look like (a)^3 + (b)^3, and then let him just use the equation sheet to plug in a and b. We have decided to meet twice a week now, so I will be meeting with him on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Overall, just a solid session covering a lot without any problems or issues."
"The student and I reviewed her math homework and covered a variety of topics. The topics included the distributive property of multiplication, exponents, the factorial, written, and standard forms of exponents and we concluded the session with rounding and solving word problem involving multiplication. I left her with a worksheet for rounding and a worksheet to write sentences using prepositional phrases."
"In this session, the student and I covered how to estimate and round according to the given place value. We continued practicing writing numbers."
"We went over limits as x approaches infinity, and finding the asymptotes of functions. We briefly discussed derivatives, but did not go into detail since the class has not gotten there yet. The student seemed quick and eager to understand the concepts."
