We spent a majority of our time preparing for part two of the student's math exam that will be administered on Friday. Mainly, we practiced the steps for graphing rational functions: finding the holes, identifying the asymptotes, determining the X and Y intercepts and plugging in values to complete the graph. He is making excellent progress, and I believe he ended the session feeling quite confident. We spent the last 20 minutes looking at the newest concepts he learned in chemistry. We barely skimmed the surface, but he will complete his homework and bring questions to our next meeting.

Today, we reviewed topics including definition of a binomial, binomial factorization, and completing the square. We completed exercises on these topics in addition to returning to unfinished exercises on graphing linear equations.

The last day before the project is due. The program works, but there are still bugs to iron out which include ending when its supposed to, backtracking in the correct manner, and returning a negative result for no solution. At the end of the session all the bugs were addressed and its ready to ship.

This week we are reviewing phonograms. The student knows the primary sounds for each phonogram. We also reviewed his homework. We ended by reading a story, and he answered comprehension questions about the story.

Today the student and I finished her POW (a kind of critical thinking, outside-of-school exercise that is weekly). Reinforcing what I said last week, she is very quick to pick up English and grammar rules, but math is her hard subject. She has trouble memorizing facts, so I think rote memorization is what I'll try first. After that, if she still has trouble, we can begin to try little number sense tricks that I learned.
