We covered selections from 17th-19th century literature, close-reading poems and prose and spending extra time on analyzing prose. The student said that when she took a practice test, she had difficulty identifying prose passages, so we talked about strategies for studying to make identification easier. She's going to review canonical fiction works to help her with identification. Maura has really developed her ability to notice formal features of excerpts and place them in a time period, which will help her make informed guesses on the GRE.

I looked over the student's Argument essay, and we went over a few strategies. As before, she is very good at constructing a logical argument and picking salient points. Her grammar (because English is her second language) is her weakness, much as vocabulary is with the Verbal section. We will continue to focus on these areas.
