We started with the earliest material, which including topics such as solving for variables, inputting numbers into equations, and order of operations. We continued to study more-recent topics such as an equation for a line, graphing, and solving equations using substitution and elimination methods. We also spent a good amount of time working on how to set up equations for word problems using systems of equations.

Our session focused on radicals and exponents, and operations with radicals because they were most recently taught by the student's teacher, who assigned homework on the topics. We spent the majority of our time focusing on three challenging concepts with radicals: 1.) They are the same as fractional exponents, and what a fractional exponent does to a numerical, fractional or variable base; 2.) Roots can be negative if the power is odd; and 3.) If a number or variable is not a perfect root or multiple of it, we should determine if a portion can be removed to simplify the expression. She did a good job multiplying and dividing radical equations and completed the homework assignment.

We went through her worksheet. It was about root functions. We covered domain, range, transformation and graphs. I explained how she has to find them and asked her to solve some questions to make sure she is able to solve them. Then we covered equations with root. I explained how she has to find the variable and then check the answer. She was able to do most of the questions by herself. We also covered about 6 questions on root relationships. She is doing good.
