Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is a smart 6th grader who will be working to improve his writing. He is not struggling in writing, but his mother wants to invoke his passion for writing and get him ready for high school essay writing. Today, we worked on persuasive writing. We talked about what it is, what good transition words are, and how to hook your reader. We read an example of a persuasive essay and picked out transition words and main support ideas. Next, we made an outline of a persuasive essay topic the student wanted to write about: school uniforms. We finished the outline and began writing the introduction. We ended by finishing up the introduction, which was descriptive and included an anecdote from the student's personal life to hook the reader."
"We discussed and brainstormed possible outlines for a course paper. In addition, we worked through exercises on eliminating wordiness."
"We reviewed and edited a narrative essay that she turned in for review. We also reviewed simple, complex, and compound sentences. I also taught her the difference between active and passive voice."
