Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student does not have any new content in her class, since they are just preparing for the AP Exam. So, we spent the tutoring session working on past AP Exam questions to help her prepare for the types of free response questions that will be on the exam. She understands the content, but has a more difficult time when the questions are not direct and require her to problem solve what the question is asking."
"The student is trying to learn some missing math fundamentals. We covered the basics on factoring quadratics with and without an A coefficient, the quadratic formula, and graphs of such polynomials."
"We worked on the student's homework during this session. He had a multiplication fact page with basic facts for fluency practice. I taught him 2 multiplication strategies/tricks for the 4 and 6 times tables. He was able to use the tricks in helping him create a multiplication chart and multiply all his facts from 1 to 10. He finished with a positive attitude."
"The student and I reviewed carrying over values while subtracting and adding. We also went over regrouping values during adding and subtracting. We reviewed counting money; this includes quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies."
"We worked on fractions. The student had to name and shade in given fractions. He only needed help with reading some of the parts of the fraction. We reviewed some strategies such as skip counting and adding skills."
"For today's session, I started off with a review. First, I had them fill out a worksheet in which they had to define the fraction vocabulary terms. Then, we reviewed multiplying fractions, and they did some practice problems. Next, we went over the 3 steps for dividing fractions. They told me that they were having a test on dividing fractions this Tuesday, so we spent a lot of time practicing division problems. I had them take turns coming up to the board to complete a question. At the end, I handed out one worksheet for homework. They did a great job today, and I'm confident they will all do well on their test this Tuesday."
