Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we reviewed some basic phrases and vocabulary, and went over the student's objectives for Spanish tutoring. We tried to speak in Spanish as much as possible, and talked about greetings, the weather, and the days of the week. Toward the end of the session, we introduced some common phrases, especially those used in Guatemala. We made a plan to meet next week, and I will send the student a short piece to translate in advance."
"The student has a final exam coming up so I asked him for a list of grammatical concepts that will be covered. We also reviewed verb conjugations in the present tense. I sent him two worksheets that we worked through together (he will finish one part on his own). He struggled a little to keep focused but otherwise was able to conjugate the verbs accurately."
"The student made tremendous progress on her memorization of the preterite irregular verbs. She completed her homework easily and over the course of the lesson her mastery of the content became apparent."
"In this class the student completed exercises regarding the conjugation of ser and estar. Also, we learned the conjugation of the three main groups of regular verbs in Spanish: verbs ending in AR, ER, and IR. I left her homework to conjugate one verb of each group. Moreover, the student practiced the Spanish alphabet and counted from 1 to 100. We also played with a language app for a little bit and finally she chose the book she would like to learn with, which she ordered online."
"In this session we worked on reviewing a few topics: 1) the use of Ser and Estar, 2) describing feelings, and 3) describing people, and personalities. Lastly, we worked on homework. The homework was vocabulary on: house and school. This was vocabulary that the student had already learned last year, so it was not hard for him. We focused on agreement in gender and in number."
"In today's lesson, the student and I got back to the use of the preterite, this time, applied to the conversation and longer expressions in Spanish. He continued using his textbook, combined with a review of the grammatical concepts on the use of the preterite."
