Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has a test tomorrow on the subjects we covered last week. I cleared up some points with her regarding how to balance equations and with stoichiometry, and she did problems relating to both subjects. She also completed a lab worksheet, and I explained to her how everything worked."
"The student and I went through questions that would be covered on an upcoming quiz, pulling from work-energy and momentum problems. We went over problems she missed on a quiz and covered other review problems as well. She is strong on momentum-related problems, but I advised that she sometimes would benefit from breaking down the problem into more-manageable parts."
"We covered problems dealing with rotational equilibrium and torque. She was struggling (not really) with balancing her different torques to show mathematically that there was rotational equilibrium."
"The student and I had a good session. She had a quiz that we went over covering solubility. Several of the questions were similar to questions that we had talked about last week. We were also able to identify other mistakes that she had made. We then started talking about the next section dealing with reaction rates. "
"The student and I prepared for her thermodynamics test, focusing on thermal expansion, heat equations, thermal equilibrium, work and internal energy of a gas, pressure vs. volume diagrams, and thermodynamic cycles. We spent a good portion of the review on internal energy of a gas, and the different types of thermodynamic cycles (adiabatic, isobaric, etc.)"
"The student and I reviewed atomic structure, isotopes, the periodic table, chemical formulas, formula mass, and conversion between moles, grams, and volume. He understood most of the concepts pretty well but needed help understanding the definition and purpose of "moles" as a unit. We focused on that and worked through some related problems from his previous class work and notes. I think he understands the concept pretty well but sometimes struggled a little bit on questions when he was trying to quickly get to an answer. We went over strategies to break down the questions and take them step by step that I think will help him. We also specifically reviewed for a quiz that he was preparing for. I wrote up a set of practice problems for him to try on his own to help prepare for his quiz."
