"The student completed a practice quantitative section before our meeting (raw score = 17, scaled score = 720, percentile = 75). She did very well at employing the strategies we discussed last week. Of the 4 problems she missed, most of her errors could be traced to a misunderstanding when reading the question. She was capable of answering each of these questions, so we discussed rereading longer word problems to ensure understanding. We also went over the concepts covered on the 3 questions she skipped. We proceeded to discuss finding volume of three dimensional figures, focusing on cylinders and rectangular prisms. We also went over using the Pythagorean theorem and finding slope. She was able to correctly answer example problems over all of the above concepts after some practice. After math, we briefly reviewed strategies for the verbal section; she will complete a practice section (with a timer) before our next meeting. Finally, we reviewed the reading section, focusing on appropriate strategies for each of the question types she encountered. We practiced identifying when to refer to the text, how to eliminate answers, and when to construct her own answer before looking to the choices. Great work!"
"We worked through a practice math and verbal section tonight, and the student did really well, especially given the week off. He needs to work on vocab a bit, especially root words."
"We worked on the synonym portion of the test. The student showed much improvement with this section. Increasing her vocabulary will only help to increase her success."
