Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I began by finishing the review of her test from Sunday, then spent the remainder of the session working in the new assessment book. The first things we noticed were that the format on the page was different, as well as the construction and selection of the answers. The prep book was rather formulaic in its construction. We worked our way through the first critical reading section and the student had an understanding of comprehension section."
"The student and I focused on the critical reading section of the exam again. I feel confident in stating that her understanding on the sentence completion questions is as far as it can go. As for the passage identification questions, he has a good understanding on those as well. For our session on Saturday, we will move onto the math section, and I have assigned her part IV of the book to review to prep her for our lesson."
"We reviewed an essay, and spent most of the session working on the math section, practicing breaking down problems and translating questions. The student seemed to understand most of the questions."
"She and I worked on sentence corrections, reading comprehension (which she did great on, especially with overall meaning of passages), and math. She has a reading practice test to do for next time."
"Worked with her on ACT science and math. She did very well on the science, scoring 92% after completing a diagnostic test in an hour. I recommended that she review some basic geometry such as sine, cosine, and tangent functions as well as 30:60:90 and 45:45:90 triangles. She will complete the math diagnostic test in her own time."
"We went over some intensive vocab sentence completions together that really helped him gain confidence with unfamiliar words and solving them in context. We also practiced some passage-based questions and went through the answers together."
"He and I finished going over his final practice test and reviewed the strategies he will use on his actual test next week. He has continued to show improvement with sentence completion, passage-based reading, improving sentences, identifying errors, and improving paragraphs. We also looked at a couple of math grid-ins together; for these questions, he understood the content well. He looks like he is in good shape for the test overall."
"We started by going over the last practice test she did, which actually went really well as she missed very few per section. We went over vocab though as this seemed to now be a limiting factor for reading and writing sections and went over some words that I gave her to memorize. Then we went over some specific math and reading sections, timed, and I went over tactics for taking the timed test. I assigned another test, timed per section, for her to do for next session."
"Today we covered a large number of math practice problems from the study guide tonight and she answered most of them with minimal prompting. She has made some really impressive progress since we started and I have high hopes for her scores this time around."
"We have been preparing for the student's SAT next weekend. He completed a practice exam and we spent this session reviewing the practice exam. Based on his results, he is ready for the Math and Writing sections, but could still use some work on the Reading section. We have another session tomorrow where we will finish reviewing his test and do some additional practice on the Reading section."
"We covered Kinematics and how to do Kinematics problems using Conservation of Mechanical Energy instead of the kinematics formulas because it is always easier to work with a scalar like energy than it is to work with vectors."
"We covered 2 sections of math from the SAT Guide. The student has been improving on the math sections and getting the answers correct on the practices. Today we focused more on solving problems that have variables (algebraic equations). We reviewed how to solve algebraic problems and solved sample problems from the practice; he seems to understand them. No concerns from this session."
